Serbian Physicist and Mathematician. First wife of Albert Einstein 1903-19. She was the only woman among Einstein´s students at Zurich Polytechnic. Maja married in 1910 Paul Winteler. The couple lived in Italy in the 1920´s and 1930´s, but when anti-semitic laws were approved in Italy, Maja left Europe and went to Princeton to live with her brother Albert. Paul Winteler was denied entry into the US on health grounds.
