PIAGET JEAN: (1896-1980) Swiss Psychologist. Best known for his pioneering works on child cognitive development and genetic epistemology. Widely considered one of the most important psychologists of the 20th century. An early A.L.S., `Jean Piaget´, three pages, 8vo, Neuchatel, 24th January 1915, to professor Bidot, in French. An unusual early letter by a young Piaget, offering a work to be published, stating `Would you accept for the Revue Suisse de Zoologie a text of fifty pages entitled ''Note about terrestrial and aquatic molluscs..'' Piaget, only aged 18 at the time of the present letter, further says `La faune malacologique vaudoise étant relativement peu connue, j´ai cru utile de faire un relevé aussi complet que possible (110 espèces) des mollusques d´un petit térritoire et de dégager les conclusions essentielles qui en découlent ´ (''The malacological fauna of the Vaud being relatively little known, I thought it useful to make a survey as complete as possible (110 species) of the molluscs of a small area and to draw the essential conclusions which result from it.'' Piaget explains that he already tried to offer his work to the Society Cantoise of Sciences, but they only publish articles by the members of the Society. Light central crease, otherwise VG Piaget was a precocious child who developed an interest in biology and the natural world. His early interest in zoology earned him a reputation among those in the field after he had published several articles on molluscs by the age of 15
