DU BARRY COMTESSE: (1743-1793) Jeanne Becu. Madame du Barry, the last Maitresse-en-titre of King Louis XV of France and one of the victims of the Reign of Terror during the French Revolution. D.S., La Comtesse du Barry, with the date and several additional words in her hand, one page, 8vo, Louveciennes, 18th November 1782, in French. The manuscript document is an order for Monsieur Buffante to pay, on the 15th April next, the sum of 20,000 livres to the Vandenyves brothers. Countersigned at the foot by Buffante (his signature struck through, presumably by way of a cancellation). Some light age wear and minor traces of former mounting to the corners, about VG
