CATHOLIC MONARCHS: ISABELLA I OF CASTILE (1451-1504) Queen of Castile 1474-1504 & FERDINAND II OF ARAGON (1452-1516) King of Aragon 1479-1516 & as Ferdinand V King of Castile 1475-1504. Known as the Catholic Monarchs, they ruled jointly over the Kingdoms of Castile, Leon, Aragon and Sicily 1475-1504. They are recognized for laying the foundations for the political unification of Spain, and also for completing the Reconquista as well as their support and financing of Christopher Columbus´ voyage of 1492 which led to the opening of the New World. Rare L.S., unusual in this form, individually signed by the King and Queen `Yo el Rey´ and `Yo la Reyna´, one page, oblong 4to, Medina del Campo, 30th July 1497, to Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa, in old Castilian. The document being a letter, sent as stated to the verso, by the King and Queen, to Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa stating `Don Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa, our royal representative in the town of Valladolid, we have read your letter, and what you explain regarding Francisco de Santiesteban presence in town while the Count of Ribadeo is absent. Let him remain there...until we give order on this matter as may redound to our service..´ Countersigned ''By the order of the King and Queen'' by Juan de la Parra. An extremely small hole to the left border not affecting the text or signatures, otherwise VG £3000-4000 Alonso Ramirez de Villaescusa (1450-?)
