At the head of the page appears a series of typed questions submitted to Shaw, in full, 'Would you say that Remarque's book "All Quiet on the Western Front" has helped to discourage future wars? Erich Maria Remarque's novel All Quiet on the Western Front, describing the German soldiers' extreme physical and mental stress during World War I, and the detachment from civilian life felt by many of these soldiers upon returning home from the front was first published in a German newspaper in November & December 1928 and in book form in January 1929.
