NECKER JACQUES: (1732-1804) Swiss Banker & Finance Minister 1777-81 under Louis XVI. Some of his decisions have been later considered as critical in creating social conditions which contributed to the outbreak of the French Revolution. L.S., `Necker´, one page, 4to, Paris, 7th June 1779, to Madame de Breuil, in French. Necker, in his capacity as General Director of the finances of the Kingdom of France, states in part `Mr. Le Comte de Maurepas, Madame, m´a remis effectivement la Mémoire qui vous intéresse, et je l´ai renvoyé a Mr. de Forges pour examiner l´objet de votre demande et m´en render compte, ainsi, un rendez-vous à ce sujet serait inutile dans ce moment…´ (“Mr. Count de Maurepas, Madame, has indeed given me the Memoir that is of interest to you, and I have forwarded it to Mr. de Forges to examine the matter of your request and report back to me, thus, an appointment regarding this matter would be useless in this moment…”) With blank integral leaf.
