LEIGH FERMOR PATRICK: (1915-2011) English soldier and travel writer who played a prominent role in the Cretan resistance during World War II. Signed 6.5 x 5 photograph, the reproduction image depicting Leigh Fermor seated outdoors in a three-quarter length pose alongside Major General Heinrich Kreipe and Leigh Fermor's second in command, Captain Bill Stanley Moss. Signed by Fermor in blue ink with his name alone. VG
The kidnapping of Major General Heinrich Kreipe, leader of the German forces in occupied Crete, occurred in April 1944 when he was abducted by the British Special Operations Executive officers Patrick Leigh Fermor and William Stanley Moss, with the support of the Cretan resistance. The events later served as the inspiration for the film Ill Met by Moonlight (1957).
