MAXIMILIAN I: (1832-1867) Austrian Archduke who served as Emperor of Mexico 1864-67. Executed. L.S., Maximilian, one page, 4to, Mexico, 12th January 1866, to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Navy, in Spanish. The Emperor states that he has authorised diplomas to be issued for the provisional appointment of a Dragoman and two Cavás for the extraordinary mission to Constantinople and further explains that the Dragoman will receive a salary of one hundred pesos a month and the Cavás will both receive thirty pesos each for the time that they are in service with the mission.
