GOUNOD CHARLES: (1818-1893) French Composer. A good signed twice A.L.S., `Ch. Gounod´ and `Ch. Gd´, three pages, 8vo, Montretout, 10th November 1863, to Ernest Legouvé, in French. Gounod plans his next work meeting with his friend and correspondent, and states in part `A demain vendredi donc, par le train que vous m´indiquez… je passerai sous votre toit la journée et la nuit; mais il me faudra vous quitter Samedi matin, ce qui me fait regretter de n´avoir pu partir aujourd´hui…´ (Translation: `See you tomorrow Friday then, by the train that you indicate to me… I will pass under your roof the day and the night; but I will have to leave you Saturday morning, which makes me regret not having been able to leave today…´) Further, and to a post-scriptum, Gounod adds, indicating it is 8h15 in the morning, `Je viens de monter au 1er, savoir des nouvelles de la nuit de tout mon petit monde: on a très mal dormi: Jean n'a pas fermé l'œil, il a souffert toute la nuit, il a de la fièvre. Pourrais-je venir demain? Si c'est grave et que je ne puisse pas partir sans inquiétude, je vous enverrai un télégramme…´ (Translation: `I have just gone up to the 1st floor, to hear about the news of the night from all my little people: we slept very badly: Jean did not sleep a wink, he suffered all night, he has fever. Could I come tomorrow? If it's serious and I can't leave without worry, I'll send you a telegram...´) Small overall minor creasing. Tear to the bottom of the last page, not affecting the text or signatures. G
