Othello is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare around 1603. Also known as The Tragedy of Othello, the Moor of Venice. The play depicts the Moorish commander Othello as he is manipulated into suspecting his wife Desdemona of infidelity. Othello is widely considered one of Shakespeare's greatest works and is usually classified among his major tragedies alongside Macbeth and Hamlet. The play remained unpublished in the author´s life.

Roderigo is a fictional character in Shakespeare´s play Othello. Roderigo has no counterpart in the original text, unlike other characters, suggesting that Shakespeare created the character himself.
