BAROJA PIO: (1872-1956) Spanish Basque Writer, one of the key novelists of the Generation of 98. Autograph statement signed `Pio Baroja´, one page, 5.5 x 3.5, Vera del Bidasoa, Basque country, Spain, 8th September 1925, to Mr. Perez, in French. The document being an attractive card, showing to the left a carefully affixed 2 x 3 paper photograph depicting Baroja in a head and shoulders pose. Baroja writes a statement to the front saying `For me the ideal would be to write with frosted and silent words which will not shine nor make noise when pronouncing them.´ Together with JOSE ECHEGARAY (1832-1916) Spanish Civil Engineer, Mathematician, Statesman and Dramatist, Nobel Prize winner for Literature 1904. A good signed and inscribed card `J. Echegaray´, Madrid, 10th December 1906, to an attractive blank postcard to the front, sending his autograph to his correspondent. G to VG, 2 £200-300
