STANISLAW II: (1732-1798) Stanislaw August Poniatowski. Last King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania 1764-95. Lover of Catherine the Great, he was a great patron of the arts, but still remains a controversial figure in Polish history. A good D.S., `Stanislaus Augustus Rex´, two pages, folio, Warsaw, 9th May 1783, to Antonio Onofrio de Olieci Oviecki, Bishop of Warsaw, in Latin. The King appoints Alexandre Smulikenoski as legitimate Treasurer of Pomerania. The Letter bears alongside the King´s signature a very attractive and large Royal seal. Also bearing an ink registry stamp to the upper right corner. Countersigned by Nicolas Siliorsli. Folded, with tears to the fold edges, and small tear to the seal, none affecting the signature.
