Toshi Yoshida, Matsumoto, Shin-Hanga, Pencil Signature - Artist: Toshi Yoshida (1911-1995) Title: Matsumoto Date: 1940 Size: 26.5 x 19.8 cm Condition: Signed by artist. Toshi Yoshida was an extremely renowned artist in the sosaku-hanga movement of modern printmaking. His close relationship with his father Hiroshi Yoshida was instrumental in the pursuit of his art and produced many woodblock prints portraying natural scenes. While his niche was traditionally animals, occasionally he would produce landscape works, like the one seen here. This print captures a quiet corner of rural Japan in Matsumoto. Children play in the street, adding a joyous quality to the image. Architectural details are carefully rendered and the whole design is printed in soft colours. Ref: JG0525U14-54
