Japanese Edo period Masahide Long Katana Signed
Long katana signed by Suishinshi Masahide. Born in 1750, he is known to be one of the three most skilled swordsmith of the Edo period. This sword is a great example of his work. Fuchi and kashira are red copper painted and represents fish while the menuki represents flowers. The very big tsuba, made by a sword smith, is a piece of art by itself. The tsuka or handle is leather wrapped, and reinforced by a copper string. The blade is 27 inches, impeccable and has Bo-Hi, a groove carved into the blade. The Hamon, or temper line, is wonderful. The Habaki is silver plated, the saya is richly decorated and impeccable. Overall a very outstanding nihonto, very firm and tight. No stand/rack included.
