Vellum Manuscript in an Original Leather Case – Ge'ez – Ethiopia, 19th Century
Vellum manuscript, from the Holy Scriptures. Ethiopia or Sudan. [The 19th century]. Ge'ez.
The manuscript features four full-page illustrations in color (Saint George and the Dragon, the Crucifixion, and more), Written on vellum, in an original binding and an original leather case with a carrying strap.
[70] ff., approx. 17.5 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains (some of them dark), creases and wear. Some scribbles in pen. Some tears and holes in vellum leaves. Presumably, some of the illustrations were repainted over the years.
Purchased in Addis Ababa in November 2003.
