Collection of Leaf Fragments from the First Printed Editions of the Talmud, 15th-17th Centuries - Fragment of a Rare Edition, Leaves from Books Printed in Pesaro, Venice, Constantinople and More
Collection of leaf fragments from a "bindings genizah" - leaves from early editions of the Babylonian Talmud, Rav Alfas and the Rambam's commentary to the Mishnah, 15th-17th centuries.
The collection includes: • Fragment of a leaf from Tractate Berachot [Italy, ca. 1510]. Rare edition, with an abridged commentary of the Rosh printed on the leaf (beneath the Rashi commentary). Of this rare edition, only two leaf fragments are known to be extant. One of them corresponds to this leaf, but is damaged and incomplete, and this leaf features parts which the other is lacking. • Leaves from Tractate Bava Batra. Pesaro: Gershom Soncino, ca. 1510. • Leaves from various tractates and from Rav Alfas. Venice: Daniel Bomberg, 1520-1522. • Leaf from Tractate Kiddushin. Sabbioneta, 1553. • Leaves from Tractate Taanit. Constantinople, 1583-1595 edition. • Leaves from the Rambam commentary to the Mishnah (Tractate Avot). Naples, 1492. • And more.
Over 40 leaves and leaf fragments. Size and condition vary (various degrees of damage due to use in binding).
