Lands in Motza – Bill of Sale, 1900
Bill of sale for lands (130 dunam) in Motza. [April 10, 1900]. A fine document, written in Rashi script, with an account of the land sold in "the colony village Motza", with a visual depiction of the estate borders, the trees and gardens, the vegetable gardens getting water from "Ein el Fuqa" and "Ein el Limona" springs. The bill also records the funds, the deeds' numbers etc.
Signed by the sellers and by rabbi Ya'akov Shaul Elyashar (with ink stamp) and by the witnesses Yitzchak Lamsali and Shimon Zion Na'im.
The sellers: Binyamin Ben Shlomo Yehezkel Yehuda (first signatory), his brother Shimon (second signatory), their nephew Eliyahu Zvi Ben Haim Faraj (third signatory) and his mother (of the nephew) Bulisa Shapira (also a signatory), they all sell their lands to the buyers: Shmaryahu Chavin, Avraham Yitzchak Menker and his brother Mordechai Eliezer, Eliyahu Henig [see "the Jerusalemite activist Eliyahu Henig" by Pinchas Grayevsky, Jerusalem, 1935] and Nahum Nathansohn [one of the founders of the Jewish Institute for the Blind" and "Zichron Moshe" neighborhood in Jerusalem].
Sheet of paper: 57X41 cm. Fair-good condition. Tears and creases, mainly around the edges, with minor damages to text and to signatures.
