“Shiviti” Menorah on Parchment – Colorful Illustrations
Shiviti, with “Lamnatze’ach” Menorah and holy names. Baghdad scribe writing upon parchment with colorful illustrations. [Bombay?, 19th century].
Menorah placed within envelope with Oriental handwritten notation from 1935: “This Menorah was given to me as a gift by Rabbi Yosef, uncle of my father in month of Adar 1, 1935; he received it from my grandfather, the righteous Solomon in Letchworth in month of Kislev 1893. Young Parcha”.
Mrs. Parcha (Flora) Feuchtwanger, daughter of well-known philanthropist Rabbi David Solomon Sassoon (1881-1942), son of Rabbi Solomon son of David Sassoon of Bombay (who passed away in Bombay, 1894). Scholarly woman who absorbed much knowledge and wisdom from her private tutors who taught the children of the Sassoon family, in their mansion in Letchworth, England.
