Mikneh Avraham – Venice, 1523
Mikneh Avraham – Peculium Abrae, grammar book by Rabbi Avraham son of Meir De-Balmes. Venice, 1523. Daniel Bomberg print. First edition.
The book is about the Hebrew letters, the roots and rules of the Hebrew language, grammar basics and more, includes a Latin translation, apparently by Rabbi David son of Klonimos who authored the book’s last chapter called “Sha’ar Be-Ta’amei Ha-Mikra” [missing in this copy], and brought the book to print.
A poem in Latin honoring Daniel Bomberg on the verso of the title page, written by Franciscus Rosetus. Includes a three page introduction in Latin by Bomberg, followed by an introduction by the author in Hebrew.
Printed in parallel with the Hebrew edition, the letter order of the Hebrew part is almost identical on both editions.
Incomplete copy. Only [112] leaves (out of [314] in the original, the end of the book is incomplete), 21 cm. Handwritten notes on the title page.
