rare! Collection of photographs from the establishment of Binyamina, 1920s.
Binyamina was founded by the sons of the first Aliya immigrants from the moshavot of the region (Zichron Yaakov and Givat Ada) and immigrants from the Third Aliyah who settled there in 1922. The inauguration ceremony of the new settlement was held on Tu B'Shvat, 1923. The land of the settlement was purchased from PICA, the settlement was agricultural at the beginning.
Baron Rothschild's clerks, who brought the first settlers to Binyamina, also brought Georgian families to help in agriculture and in the perfume industry. The Jasmine perfume manufacturing factory opened in the village in 1925.
After World War I many groups joined the scene and it grew rapidly.
In addition, work groups such as the Menora group, led by Gershon Schatz, came to work in the area to dry the Kabara swamps.
