Sidur Beit-El [prayers for the entire year].

Hebrew text with translation and commentary in Russian by Asher Wohl. Separate Hebrew and Russian titles. Vignette of Wandering Jew on verso of Hebrew title. Includes Passover Hagadah.

pp. (xvi), 498, 24. Opening leaf rehinged, few neat taped repairs. Contemporary boards. 8vo.

Kobe (神戸市), Sputnik, 1920.

The first Jewish prayer-book issued in Japan.

The only Hebrew book printed in the city of Kobe.

First issued in Vilna, this Siddur was republished to serve the tiny Jewish Community resident in Kobe, a port city in the Kansai region of Japan, located on the main island of Honshu.

Two decades later, Kobe served as a safe haven - almost uniquely so - for thousands of Jews fleeing the European Holocaust.
