KAGAN, YISROEL MEIR OF RADIN
(The Chofetz Chaim). Nidchei Yisrael.
FIRST EDITION.
pp. 130. Modern boards. 4to.
Warsaw, M.I. Halter and Meir Eisenstadt, 1893.
Aware of the strains that modernity was placing on traditional Jewish life, especially in Western countries such as America, the Chofetz Chaim penned this work in order to solidify the reader’s commitment to keeping the strictures of the Torah. Its 45 chapters address theological and practical aspects of basic Mitzvoth, such as marrying within the faith, keeping Kosher and studying Torah.
Best known for his Mishnah Berurah and Chofetz Chaim, R. Yisroel Meir Kagan also composed many smaller topical works such as this one, addressing the pressing religious needs of late 19th century Ashkenazi Jewry.
