AUSTRIAN COPPER PASSOVER TRAY.
Central medallion featuring Moses at the Burning Bush;
Late 19th-century
Continuous frieze along outer border depicting the Exodus from Egypt with appropriate Hebrew inscriptions. Later German inscription around rim with presentation to Cantor Immanuel Kirschner, Munich 1901. With Diana-head and maker’s mark. Diam: 12 inches (30.5 cm). Very similar in style to Ze’ev Raban’s later Passover plate. Interestingly, Raban studied in Munich and might well have seen and taken note of the present tray. For another example (in silver) see: Sotheby Parke Bernet, The Levine Collection of Judaica, 10 October, 1974, Lot 185.
