FATIMID BRONZE DOOR KNOCKER IN THE FORM OF A FELINE, 9TH - 10TH CENTURY

This rare and intriguing bronze door knocker from the Fatimid period, dating to the 9th - 10th century, is designed in the form of a stylised feline.

The feline, possibly representing a lion or a similar guardian creature, stands on four solid legs, with a finely detailed face that includes engraved eyes and a slightly opened mouth. The body is smooth and well-proportioned, with a short tail extending from the back. On the feline's back is a small, round fitting where the door knocker would be attached, suggesting this piece was not only functional but also symbolic, likely intended to ward off evil and protect the home.
