Group of 10 United States Mint Proof Sets 1990-1999 54 coins.. Group of 10 United States Proof Sets 1990-1999 54 coins. Set from 1990-1998 contained proof versions of the five coins issued for circulation that year. This included the Kennedy Half, Washington Quarter, Roosevelt Dime, Jefferson Nickel, and Lincoln Cent. Each coin was struck at the San Francisco Mint and carried the “S” mint mark. The 1999 Proof Set began the State Quarters era. Starting this year, five different quarter designs were released annually to honor each of the 50 states in the order they ratified the Constitution or joined the Union. This ambitious and innovative program expanded the number of coins included in the standard proof set from five to nine, representing the highest number of coins for the modern era to date. 1999 set contains the additional five State Quarters honoring Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Georgia, and Connecticut.
