1935A $1 Yellow Seal Silver Certificate North Africa WWII Grades vf+. 1935a $1 Silver Certificate North Africa, Signatures of Julian & Morgenthau. It was the darkest days of World War II, just after Pearl Harbor. Were the Nazis under Field Marshall Rommel preparing a massive push through North Africa? If they did, and succedded, they could use the millions of dollars in currency the seized to buy war material. To thwart this, these Silver Certificates were sent to North Africa. Each has a yellow seal on the front. If the Nazis did succeed to over run our expeditiary force, the currency would be demonetized. After the threat passed, most of these "North Africa" Notes were destroyed. Today they're hard to find. This special 1935A $1 Silver Certificate was printed for use during Operation Torch, the Allied invasion of North Africa. It bears the usual 1935A Julian-Morgenthau signatures. However, this note bears a yellow Treasury seal instead of blue, to assure instant recognition (and devaluation) in the event of defeats by the enemy, or enemy capture of large quantities of cash. Known as a "yellow seal" Silver Certificate, this historic World War II currency note is highly sought after by collectors.
