These large-size 90% silver coins are from an era when half dollars played a major role in daily commerce and most experienced heavy wear from frequent handling. But these well-preserved 1951 coins display only slight wear on the highest points of the design and much of the original mint luster is still present.Honoring a revered founding father, Franklin half dollars are the last U.S. coin series minted every year in 90% silver. The 1951 issues were struck during the year of the first color television broadcast and the installation of the world's first commercial computer (C I) at the United States Census Bureau.
