[MUSIC AUTOGRAPHS] - COUNT BASIE (1904–1984) - Inscribed and Signed Photograph and Autograph Note Signed - COUNT BASIE (1904–1984) - Large black-and-white publicity portrait of the American jazz pianist, bandleader and composer Count Basie, inscribed in blue ink in the upper left: “To Hope / from / Count Basie” and signed “Count Basie”. The photograph bears Basie’s printed name at the lower left and the details of his management, Willard Alexander, Inc., at the lower right. Together with an autograph note signed, addressed to Roland and written in blue ink on a sheet headed with a stylised clock-face design incorporating the words “COUNT BASIE”. Basie writes: “To Roland? All the best for you?and always –?Count Basie” and signs with his characteristic signature. An attractive pair of signed pieces relating to one of the towering figures of twentieth-century jazz, especially in the swing era. The combination of a substantial inscribed publicity portrait and a separately signed personal note makes this an appealing combination of jazz and twentieth-century music memorabilia. Two items: one inscribed and signed photograph and one autograph note signed.
