[MUSIC AUTOGRAPHS] - FERRUCCIO BUSONI (1866–1924) - Signed photographic postcard - FERRUCCIO BUSONI (1866–1924) - Signed photographic postcard, addressed in Busoni’s hand. 1914. Signed photographic postcard. 1914. Portrait photograph of Busoni, signed prominently in ink; manuscript address and date on verso. A fine photographic portrait postcard of Busoni, showing the composer in evening dress, his head resting on one hand. The portrait is prominently signed in ink across the upper portion, “Ferruccio Busoni”, with the printed caption “Prof. Ferruccio Busoni” below. The reverse is dated 14 March 1914 and addressed in Busoni’s hand to a lady in Ravenna, showing that the card was not simply signed as a portrait but used by Busoni for personal correspondence. An appealing pre-war portrait, distinguished by a particularly large and fluent example of Busoni’s signature and by the autograph address on the verso. Its use as an actual piece of correspondence gives the photograph a more personal character than a conventionally signed publicity portrait. The date is significant, falling only a few months before the outbreak of the First World War and during one of the most productive periods of Busoni’s European career. Condition: Light age toning and minor handling wear; otherwise well preserved.
