[VARIOUS AUTOGRAPHS, LETTERS, & DOCUMENTS] - W. SOMERSET MAUGHAM (1874–1965) - Typed Letter Signed, The Dorchester, London, 1962 - W. SOMERSET MAUGHAM (1874–1965) Typed Letter Signed, The Dorchester, London, 1962 Typed letter signed “W. Somerset Maugham”, dated 7 October 1962, on a single sheet of headed stationery from The Dorchester, London, W.1, and addressed to Rolando Pieraccini. Maugham warmly acknowledges Pieraccini’s letter: “Thank you for your charming letter and all the nice things you say. It was extremely kind of you to write to me; I was touched and much pleased.” He then responds directly to Pieraccini’s request for his signature: “Here is the autograph you ask for.” The letter concludes “Yours sincerely” and is signed in blue ink “W. Somerset Maugham”. Together with the original postal envelope, addressed to Pieraccini in Italy and bearing British postage and postal cancellation. Written when Maugham was in his late eighties, only three years before his death, this is an attractive example of the celebrated novelist and playwright’s correspondence, with a particularly clear and substantial autograph signature. The Dorchester letterhead adds an appealing London association. Two items: one typed letter signed and the original postal envelope.
