Hans Thoma, Polychrome Handprint on Paper, Narcissus
Rarely offered polychrome handprint on paper by German Symbolist artist Hans Thoma who interpreted the Greek myth of Narcissus as Boy by the Stream. Made in Thoma's favored style of strong contour lines and precision drawing, the nude boy is set in a pastoral landscape where he bends to the water stream to see his reflection. This handprint was produced in the low edition number of 10 copies after which the plate was destroyed. On the lower left in plate: HTH, 1892. On verso, original stamp with the gallery's addresses in Leipzig, Brussel, London & New York, and titled Hans Thoma, Narziss, Leipzig. Housed in the original wood frame. Sight size: 12.50"L x 15.25"H. Frame size: 14.25"L x 17"H x 0.75"W.
Artist: Hans Thoma (German, 1839-1924)
