This splendid large oil on canvas is painted in a French Barbizon Style. It depicts a clearing in a forest where sunlight peeks through the trees onto a large pool of water that runs between rocks toward the viewer. The artist used muted shades of forest greens, brown and caramel colors, and dark blues that blend in a serene atmosphere. Signed on the lower right side: M. R. S ? Stamped on the back of the canvas: Snow & May's, Art Gallery, Importers and Manufacturers of Frames, Moldings, & Artists' Materials. Housed in its original antique gilded wooden frame. Frame size: 44"L x 34"H x 3"W. Artwork dimensions: 37"L x 27.25"H.
