8. English letter from Rabbi and Professor Adolf Buchler, apologising for not accepting Chief Rabbi Hertz’s invitation to deliver a Talmud lecture at the Great synagogue, as he is not fluent in Yiddish. Eastbourne 1918.
9. Dr Meir Balaban – German letter confirming receipt of a set of Chumashim with Chief Rabbi Hertz’s English translation, and mentioning that he heard that it has also appeared in German. Pencil note by Chief Rabbi Hertz apparently saying he should be sent the three volumes of his sermons. Warsaw 1938.

Chief Rabbi Joseph Tzvi Hertz (1872-1946), born in Hungary and studied in America. Appointed British Chief Rabbi in 1913. Author of Bible commentary and other works.
