RABBI AHRON HEIMAN, AND OTHER LONDON RABBIS. LETTER TO BRITISH CHIEF RABBI DR YOSEF TZVI HERTZ, REGARDING SUPPORT FOR SHOCHETIM.


Letter dated 1916, thanking Chief Rabbi Dr Hertz for giving his support to the local shochetim and agreeing to an increase in their wages. The first signatory is Rabbi Ahron Heiman, followed by Rabbi Shmuel Kalman Mellinek and Rabbi Bentzion Schneiderman, both of whom served as Rabbis in London.

Rabbi Ahron Heiman (1863-1937), student of the Yeshivos of Novardok and Volozhin, settled in London in 1885, serving as rabbi. Among the founders of Yeshivas Etz Chaim, Agudas HaTalmudei Torah and Agudas HaShochtim. Settled in Tel Aviv in 1929. Editor of a number of Talmudic and Midrashic encyclopaedic works.

Chief Rabbi Dr Yosef Tzvi Hertz (1872-1946), born in Hungary, appointed Chief Rabbi of Great Britain in 1913. Author of English Bible translation, notes and other works.
