RABBI MORDECHAI EFRAIM FISHEL SOFER, RABBI OF SARVAR, AUTHOR OF ZICHRON EFRAIM, INTERESTING HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER. Letter dated 1885, addressed to Rabbi Mordechai Friedman, explaining that as this is an urgent matter, he is writing despite his daughter being in a serious medical state. Rabbi Sofer explains that a halachic question on the kashrus of an animal was submitted to him, apparently having been sent by the local Shochet, and he had ruled that it was permitted. He later discovered that he had been misled by the questioner, who was in fact from the area under jurisdiction of Rabbi Mordechai Friedman, who had ruled that the animal was treifa. Rabbi Fishel Sofer apologises for issuing his ruling in error and supports Rabbi Friedman’s decision. Rabbi Mordechai Efraim Fishel Sofer (1855-1893), son of Rabbi Eliezer Zussman of Paks, student of the Ksav Sofer and Shevet Sofer, and son-in-law of Rabbi Yaakov Tzvi Ruttner of S. Miklas. Appointed as Rabbi of Sarvar at the age of 27. Author of Zichron Efraim. [2] sides. 23 x 29 cm. Condition: good – fair, tape, slight tear on left side with loss of a few letters.
