A CHINESE EMBROIDERED PINK DAMASK SILK SKIRT IN THREE PARTS, LATE 19TH/EARLY 20TH CENTURY. The pleated pink silk edged with black and ivory embroidered shaped panels worked with insects, flowers peacocks, birds in coloured and gold threads, with turquoise and pink edged applique flowers, comprising two pleated sections of skirt with waistband and toggles and an embroidered edge panel. 106cm long. Provenance: Property of Dr.G.W.Milledge acquired during his time in China c.1930s, thence by descent. This has been cut into three individual sections including one detached decorative embroidered black silk panel. The skirt could be complete and would require conservation/restoration. Some of the applique work is slightly loose with glue deposits visible. Some of the lining on the panel is loose and the stitching has frayed where is has been cut down. This is evident on all areas which has been cut down.
Overall the pink damask silk is slightly faded and there are some brown patches of staining. The embroidery is finely worked and retains its bright colour. Some typical wear and loose stitching.
