A CHINESE PAINTED POTTERY HORSE AND RIDER, HAN DYNASTY (206 BC-AD 220). The horse modelled standing foursquare with rider seated astride, clothes and saddle enriched in red and black paint. 30.2cm high x 27.5 cm wide. Provenance: Property of a Lancashire family.
Constructed from grey pottery. The horse lacking one ear and the other ear has been restuck, the rider is lacking implement (presumably the reins) in his hands, loss to right hand thumb, his right arm cracked and restuck, horse's tail cracked and restuck, horse's rear left leg cracked and restuck, some typical surface flaking, deterioration and wear overall.
