A CHINESE NEOLITHIC BLACK POTTERY JAR, SIWA CULTURE (C. 1350 BC). Heavily potted with a smooth burnished surface. Pottery from the Siwa culture found in Gansu and Qinghai provinces is usually of an orange or buff-coloured pottery. Examples such as this are particularly rare. Height 21.5cm. For reference: a similar but smaller example is shown in the China Institute book 'Dawn of the Yellow Earth'.
Provenance: from a Sussex collection assembled during the 1990s.
