TWO CHINESE NEOLITHIC POTTERY ITEMS. To include a cooking vessel with three wide udder-shaped legs allowing it to be stood in a fire with as much heat as possible being transmitted to the contents inside the vessel. The colour of the pottery varies from a reddish-brown to black. There are also what appear to be black carbon deposits on the surface presumably from use. With ‘pie crust’ decoration around the rim and appliqué strips applied to the two handles and body. 13cm tall. Qijia Culture (c. 2050 – 1700 BC). Together with another jar probably Machang 3rd to 2nd millennium BC, decorated in red and black pigment with two strap handles at the neck. 13cm and 14cm tall. (2)
One shallow chip to the rim with surface wear expected with age. No signs of obvious repair.
