FIVE CHINESE MARIONETTE PUPPETS, LATE QING DYNASTY/EARLY 20TH CENTURY. Comprising: a figure of an Emperor wearing a long red silk robe and headdress, embroidered in coloured silk and gilt thread with a dragon chasing a flaming pearl, together with four attendant figures, each with painted wooden faces, articulated wooden hands, strung and one suspended from wooden paddle, the first approx. 70.5cm high. (5)
Some typical wear and rubbing to painted faces, some later replacements to clothing and fabric, some lacking elements of embellishment/decoration, typical wear to clothing. One has wooden paddle, all are strung although string is loose.
