Aufsatzmaske der Bamileke
Kameruner Grasland, 1. Hälfte 20. Jh., Holz geschnitzt, Bast und Baumwolle mit aufgenähten farbigen Glasperlen, abstrahiertes Elefantenhaupt, bekrönt von plastischer Wildkatze, nach Auffassung der Graslandbewohner standen die Tiere in einem hierarchischen Verhältnis zueinander, vergleichbar der Rangordnung in der Welt des Menschen, der Elefant wurde mit dem König in Beziehung gesetzt, er galt - zusammen mit dem Leopard und der Python - als Symboltier der Herrschaft, Altersspuren, kleinere Substanzverluste, H ca. 50 cm.

Cameroon grassland, 1st half of the 20th century, carved wood, raffia and cotton with sewn-on coloured glass beads, abstract elephant head, crowned by a sculptural wild cat, according to the grassland inhabitants, the animals stood in a hierarchical relationship to each other, comparable to the hierarchy in the human world, the elephant was related to the king, it was considered - together with the leopard and the python - as a symbolic animal of dominion, traces of age, minor loss of substance, h approx. 50 cm.
