Madhubani (Mithila) Painting
This collection of Mathubani paintings, the folk art of India, was acquired direct from a Devi family artist, a scarce, earlier collection of paintings, these mostly from the 1950's with some about 1972 & were a bit difficult to allow their export out of India. Sourced from the Devi family, some by one or another of this family, most having received important cultural recognition, only two other non-family members have received such. All in nice original condition. Matted now but buyer can know that multiples can easily be rolled into a tube for shipping. A few stamped with Indian gallery exhibition or info. Some of these by Devi artists have sold at Christies and Sotheby's in the thousands. Extensive history and information regarding these paintings is available as provenance and can be obtained by request to the gallery. This description applies to each of these paintings being offered in this sale. These are all 30" x 22" a most often used size for Devi family paintings Generally earth tones, inks and colors on mulberry paper.
