Antique 1882 Bill of Exchange – Finlands Bank (Bank of Finland) to Rothschild Brothers, Paris Банк Финляндии Российская Империя

This rare bill of exchange, dated Мay 5, 1881, was issued by Finlands Bank, the central bank of Finland, known today as the Bank of Finland, one of the oldest central banks in the world. The document represents an amount of 410 Francs and is payable to Messrs. Rothschild Brothers in Paris. This document, marked as the "Première" (First of Exchange), was part of a multi-part financial system that ensured secure international transactions.

Well-preserved with crisp printing and legible handwriting. Includes the distinctive "Première" marking and fine detailing on the front.
Stamp and Revenue Marks: Features revenue stamps and endorsements on the reverse, adding to its historical authenticity and value.
Design Elements: Intricate engraving of the Finlands Bank crest, featuring Russian Imperial double-headed eagle, reflecting Finland’s ties to the Russian Empire at the time. Elegant typography and ornamental flourishes enhance its aesthetic appeal.

The Bank of Finland was established in 1811 when Finland was an autonomous Grand Duchy under Russian rule. By 1882, it played a crucial role in managing the country’s financial affairs, including facilitating international trade and currency exchange. This bill of exchange demonstrates the bank’s active engagement in global financial markets, working with the renowned Rothschild Brothers in Paris.

This bill of exchange is a significant artifact for collectors of historical financial documents and central bank memorabilia. Its association with Finlands Bank, a historically important institution, and Rothschild Brothers, one of the most prominent European banking families, makes it a valuable addition to collections of 19th-century banking ephemera. Its excellent condition and connection to Finland’s economic history further enhance its desirability.
