Letter of Blessings - Handwritten Entirely by the Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis Rosh Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit, to the Maharitz Dushinsky and the Rabbis of the Community - Kalwaria, 1936
ונסו הצללים בארצנו הקדושה - letter of blessings by the great Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis, addressed to Gaon Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit, the Maharitz Dushinsky, his Beit Din and members of the community - Kalwaria, 1936.
The letter was written by Rabbeinu several months before the publication of his new position as Rosh Av Beit Din of the community. The letter contains Rabbeinu's warm blessings to the Dayanim and members of the community for the New Year and references to the pogroms of the 1936–1939 Arab Revolt .
"מע"כ אלופי ועד העיר לקהלת האשכנזים... ובראשם להרב הגאון האדיר כו' כש"ת מוהרי"צ דושינסקי שליט"א... לשנה טובה תכתבו ותחתמו... קרובים המה הרגעים שיפוח היום ונסו הצללים בארצנו הקדושה ועד מעט והנה עינינו רואות אור כי יהל הקלות יחדלון והפרעות לא ישמעון המסיתים יסוגרו והפראים יתפזרו ונעלה הענן מעל משכן בנ"י ועפ"י ד' יחנו בשלוה ומנוחה ונס יגון ואנחה, אין פרץ ואין צווחה" (Indeed, Rabbeinu waited two years for things to quiet down and immigrated to Eretz Yisrael only in late 1938, although during that time, he was already called Rosh Av Beit Din of HaEidah HaChareidit).
Rabbeinu ends his letter with warm blessings: "הגדתי היום את ברכתי לכל הנזכרים למעלה, ונשלח לכל עדת בנ"י הנספחים אליהם כולם יכתבו ויחתמו לאלתר לחיים... ימלא ה' כל משאלותם..".

The Gaon Rabbi Zelig Reuven Bengis (1864-1953) served as Rav in Kalwaria, Belarus and then as Gaon Av Beit Din of the Chareidi community in Jerusalem. He authored Lifalgut Reuven and more. Among his disciples were Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach and Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv.
Was a famed Gaon. It is told that his in-law wanted to know whether all that was said of him was true so he sent a letter to the Rav of the Kollel, Rabbi Yaakov Yosef, who was then living in Vilna, who replied: "ולדעתי יהיה מגאוני הזמן - ויתר הדברים אוכל להודיעו כי בפה ווילנא היו רוצים בו גדולי הרבנים דפה".
