Letter handwritten by Rabbi Yosef Ancona—Italy, 19th century
Interesting letter handwritten by Rabbi Yosef Ancona of Padua (Italy), in which he requests and offers himself to be rabbi of Singalia. It is interesting to note that the letter worked and he was accepted as rabbi of that place. The letter is entirely written in fine Italian script. On the opposite side the rabbi wrote the address to which he was sending the letter, in Italian. Watermark at the top of the page. Tear on one side of the accompanying empty page, signs of folding, stains, generally good condition, 18x22.5cm. Rabbi Yosef David Elhanan Ancona ben Rabbi Shlomo Avraham Hai, rabbi in Logo (Singalia-Italy) in the 19th century. Appointed to teach by important Italian rabbis, including Rabbi Yekutiel Haim HaKohen of Savionita, Rabbi Eliyahu Shlomo Nassim of Savionita, Rabbi Yaakov Yisrael Carmi Meriggio, Rabbi David Yaakov Morini of Pitiliano, and Rabbi Yitzhak Eliyahu Menachem Ascoli of Ferrara.
