The Holy Zohar, First Edition - Mantua, 1619/1620. Thousands of handwritten annotations from the early 1700s.

Sefar HaZohar, by the divine Tanna Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, covering the books of Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy, Mantua, 1619/1620 – First Edition.

Throughout the volume, there are thousands of annotations, additions, and corrections, handwritten by Rabbi Yosef Chaim, son of Rabbi Shalom Elazar Ashkenazi. In one place, he signed his name with the date 1708.

Most of the annotations are supplements to the Zohar based on the 'Zohar Chadash, ' apparently according to the Salonika edition of 1597.

Additionally, there are annotations and references from the proofreader Rabbi Ashkenazi, who was evidently a remarkably knowledgeable Kabbalist. He meticulously proofread the entire Zohar before us, and there is hardly a page without several corrections and annotations from him.

To illustrate, here are a few examples of the annotations:

On page 266, the proofreader wrote a segula (protective charm) for safeguarding the home.

On pages 157, 184, 237, and 296, there are annotations that seem to be the proofreader's interpretations, not included in the printed edition.
On page 156/2, the proofreader writes a brief teaching from the Ari (Rabbi Isaac Luria).

On page 168, the proofreader wrote an explanation concerning the concept of "sparkling" from which converts are created. On page 186/2, the proofreader wrote about the meaning of a kiss.

At times, when the proofreader writes something from his own teachings, he signs his name "Yosef Chaim" above the annotation.

The annotations have been partially examined, and it appears to be a significant discovery in the world of Kabbalah, meriting extensive research by those versed in esoteric wisdom.

115, [2], 118-300 leaves, missing the last 3 leaves, in good condition, with minor artistic restorations. Some of the annotations are slightly cut off, light stains, newly bound in a luxurious leather cover, slightly loose.
