A letter from the Holy Gaon Rebbi Yaakov Elimelech Panet of Dej Zt''l to Rabbi Avraham Mordechai Klirs [manager of a bank in the Land of Israel and son of the renowned Gaon Rabbi Moshe Klirs, Av Beit Din of Tiberias].

Regarding a confidential matter, with God's help, Vayigash 5696... Shalom and blessings... To the esteemed and precious... Rabbi Avraham Mordechai, may his light shine... Thank you very much for your efforts on my behalf. Thanks to God, I have been well with His help after dealing with medical treatments for several weeks. May He continue to assist us... to hear only good news..."

After his greetings, the Rebbi proceeds to the matter for which the letter was sent: "...If it will not be a burden, I request that you inform me if it is true that Reb Mendel Klein no longer has a business due to his wife's illness, may she have a complete recovery. Your response will remain confidential with me, and I will not disclose from whom I asked this... I pray for his welfare at all times and anticipate his salvation along with the rest of Israel..."

The Holy Gaon Rebbi Yaakov Elimelech Panet Hy''d (1889-1944), the fifth Rebbe in the holy dynasty of Dej, descendant of the author of Marei Yechezkel, and President of the Ahavat Zion Sevenbergen Fund. Son of his father, the Holy Gaon, author of Knesset Yechezkel. At the age of 14, he was crowned Rabbi of Marosh-Ujvar, succeeding his father, who became Rabbi of Dej. In 1925, he moved close to his father and was appointed the "Young Rabbi." During that time, he led a yeshiva with 100 students. In 1930, after the passing of his holy father, he was appointed in his place as Av Beit Din of Dej and became known as the Rebbe of Dej. He was one of the prominent leaders of the state of Sevenbergen. During the years of turmoil, his Chassidim obtained licenses for him to escape destruction, but the Rebbe refused and was martyred in sanctification of God's name on the 18th of Sivan, 1944 Hy''d. His Torah insights and teachings on the holidays were published in Zikaron Yaakov
