Framed Prints – David Cox (1783–1859) - Framed Prints – David Cox (1783–1859), ”Pembroke Castle” and ”The Junction of the Severn and the Wye with Chepstow in the Distance' A pair of finely presented reproduction prints after original watercolours by David Cox, 1) ”Pembroke Castle” – A sweeping view of the medieval fortress in Wales, rendered with soft tonal washes and dramatic sky. The castle's round towers and riverside setting are depicted with Cox's characteristic looseness and romantic mood.2) ”The Junction of the Severn and the Wye with Chepstow in the Distance” – Painted in 1830, this composition shows the confluence of two rivers with Chepstow's silhouette on the horizon. Trees frame the foreground, and figures rest near the water's edge, adding scale and human presence. The work exemplifies Cox's mastery of light and spatial depth, and was exhibited at the Society of Painters in Water Colours. Both prints are housed in ornate gilt frames with black accents, glazed and mounted for decorative display 60 x 45cm (Loc 431)
