Louis XV style Side Table ”Hélard” (Marquetry and Bronze) - Louis XV style Side Table ”Hélard” (Marquetry and Bronze) This exceptionally decorative side table, styled as the Louis XV ”Hélard” model (Image 638-1), is a luxurious example of the Rococo style (c. 1730–1760), showcasing the high-end ébénisterie (cabinetmaking) that characterized the period. Style and Structure Period Style: The piece is a classic Louis XV (Rococo) design, defined by its lack of straight lines and its emphasis on continuous, elegant movement. Structure: The table features a light and graceful form, supported by finely arched cabriole legs. The body contains a single drawer in the belt and is fitted with a matching lower shelf (entrejambe). The legs and frame curve subtly, preventing any sense of rigidity. Materials: The table is constructed using high-quality veneer of precious woods, specifically rosewood and violet wood (bois de rose et bois de violette), over a solid secondary wood carcase. Marquetry and Trim Marquetry (Inlay): The top, drawer front, and lower shelf are entirely covered in meticulous marquetry (wood inlay). The pattern is primarily a precise geometric latticework (parquetry), often diamond-shaped, which provides a dramatic contrast and visual depth. Within this lattice, delicate floral motifs (like small four-petaled flowers) are often inlaid, providing a subtle touch of naturalistic ornamentation typical of the Rococo taste. Gilt Bronze Mounts: The piece is lavishly accented with rich chiseled bronze handles and trim (ormolu). These mounts often take the form of scrolling rocaille (shell-like) or foliage motifs at the corners and along the apron. The bronze is chiseled (or chased) to give it a textured, three-dimensional finish, adding to the opulence. The drawer is fitted with a characteristic Rococo-style handle that is asymmetrical and detailed. This table is a striking example of Louis XV luxury furniture, combining the period's preference for undulating forms with the highly skilled application of exotic marquetry and chased gilt-bronze.Height : 27 inchWidth : 18 inchDepth : 14 inchHeight : 69 cmWidth : 46 cmDepth : 37 cm Ateliers Allot is a prestigious French family institution established in 1812 and headquartered on Rue de Vaugirard with showrooms in Paris, renowned for its mastery of traditional cabinetmaking and the rare ”Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant” (EPV) label.
