DR. PHILIP GOULD TRIBAL COLLECTIONS FROM AFRICA, SOUTHEAST ASIA, AND CENTRAL AMERICA.
Dr. Philip Gould a distinguished Professor of Chinese Art at Columbia University and Sarah Lawrence College, was in his personal life a passionate collector of tribal art and artifacts from around the world. This 3 day auction showcases a lifetime of collecting and scholarship in these tribal areas.
DAY 3: GUATEMALAN TRIBAL/REGIONAL GARMENTS, TEXTILES, AND ACCESSORIES
Dr. Gould?s interest in Guatemalan textiles shows the hyper-regionality of back-strap loom weaving techniques and symbolic designs. Within this context the vibrancy of the Mayan culture comes through. The collection features ornate and brightly colored Huipile (tunics), Faja (sashes/belts), Corte (skirts), Tzute (wraps), Tocoyal/Cintas (headbands), Paya (veils), and Pantalones (pants).
